This release also brings <strong>Earned Value Management<\/strong> to <strong>Twproject<\/strong>, the most widely used project control technique for understanding, based on hard figures, whether you\u2019re spending your budget in the right way and at the right time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two very different new features, but with a common goal: to provide you with <strong>faster and more reliable information<\/strong> on the actual status of your projects. Here are some examples of queries you might make:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cWhich high-priority ToDo&#8217;s are still open on the Alpha project?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u2018How many hours has the team logged on the Beta project this week?\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u2018Summarize the comments from the past month on the ToDo&#8217;s assigned to me.\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u2018Create a ToDo for reviewing the specification document and assign it to Mark.\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No more filters to set or reports to export to get a quick answer: you just ask the question in your own words, and the data arrives in seconds. Whether you\u2019re a <strong>project manager<\/strong> who needs to prepare a status update, or a coordinator who wants to quickly understand where the heaviest <a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/it\/progetti-e-carico-di-lavoro-delle-risorse-cosa-ce-da-sapere\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>workload<\/strong><\/a> lies, the time you save is huge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"security\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security and control: the administrator always has the final say<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connecting an AI to business data requires the right safeguards, and we have made no compromises on this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>OAuth authentication<\/strong>: the assistant accesses <strong>Twproject<\/strong> using the user\u2019s credentials, via a standard and secure authorisation protocol. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Write access enabled on a per-user basis<\/strong>: write operations (creating or modifying data) are enabled by the <strong>administrator<\/strong>, on a user-by-user basis. Users without this permission can only view data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rate limiting<\/strong>: write operations are subject to frequency limits to prevent unintended bulk changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this way, the AI becomes an ally for the team, without ever bypassing the rules and permissions you have already defined in <strong>Twproject<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"earned\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Earned Value Management: keeping the budget under control with the S-curve<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second major new feature in this release is designed for those who need to keep <strong>costs and progress<\/strong> under control: <strong>Twproject<\/strong> introduces <strong>Earned Value Management (EVM)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve already read our in-depth article on the <a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/cost-performance-index-how-to-calculate-and-optimize-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Cost Performance Index<\/strong><\/a>, you\u2019ll know how important it is not to stop at simply comparing actual expenditure with the budget. Simply knowing that you have used up 50 per cent of the budget means nothing on its own: it depends on how much work you have actually completed and how much you should have completed by that date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>EVM<\/strong> answers precisely this question, by comparing three <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Earned_value_management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">project metrics<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Planned Value (PV)<\/strong>, the planned value: how much you should have spent, according to the plan, on the work scheduled up to today.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Earned Value (EV)<\/strong>, the earned value: the value of the work actually completed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Actual Cost (AC)<\/strong>, the actual cost: how much you have actually spent to complete that work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By comparing these three values, you can immediately see whether the project is <strong>behind or ahead<\/strong> of schedule and whether you are <strong>spending more or less than expected<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words, you can derive indicators such as the <strong>Cost Performance Index<\/strong><em> <\/em>and the <strong>Schedule Performance Index<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"baseline\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The project\u2019s financial baseline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To measure variances, you need a point of reference. In <strong>Twproject <\/strong>, you can assign a <strong>financial baseline<\/strong> to each project \u2013 in other words, a \u2018snapshot\u2019 of the cost plan against which to compare the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/earned-value-how-to-evaluate-the-progress-of-a-project\/\">actual progress<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/project-baseline-measurement-variables\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">baseline <\/a><\/strong>is also available via the <strong>API<\/strong>, so you can integrate it into your reporting or business intelligence tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"new\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The new EVM report with S-curve<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main output of this feature is the new <strong>EVM report<\/strong>, which compares planned value, earned value and actual cost against the baseline, representing them using the classic <strong>S-curve<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/earned-value-management-report-840x384.jpg\" alt=\"EVM S-curve report with Twproject\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The S-curve shows the cumulative trend of the three values over time and makes any deviations visible at a glance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>if the actual cost curve is <strong>above<\/strong> that of the earned value, you are spending more than the work carried out is \u2018worth\u2019;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>if the earned value curve is <strong>below<\/strong> the planned value curve, the project is falling behind schedule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a valuable tool for the project manager, but also for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/how-to-improve-management-control-activities-in-your-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">management control<\/a><\/strong> and senior management, who can identify projects at risk before the variance becomes difficult to recover from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"other\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other new features in release 7.3.001<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AI integration with MCP and Earned Value Management are the main new features, but this release brings many others with it. Here are a few in brief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Safer concurrent editing<\/strong>: when a colleague is editing a ToDo, it is locked in real time in lists, Kanban boards, planners and the agenda, with a clear message. The Gantt chart also handles simultaneous moves and edits and alerts you if someone else is already working on the same project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Worklog from the work plan<\/strong>: a new job, disabled by default, automatically generates worklogs based on the hours scheduled in the work plans, whilst adhering to budget constraints.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More comprehensive project cloning<\/strong>: recurring ToDo&#8217;s are cloned along with the project and their scheduling adapts to the new dates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Markdown files in documents<\/strong>: Markdown files within documents and attachments are now displayed directly in the viewer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More powerful APIs<\/strong>: sorting by multiple fields, ToDo history, and file uploads for costs, expenses and revenue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enhanced security<\/strong>: improved management of logins, sessions and password recovery, with more robust security settings enabled by default.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to these, there are numerous improvements to Gantt charts, Kanban boards, timesheets and calendars, as well as a significant set of fixes regarding workload calculations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"try\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Try the new Twproject now!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, this release is <strong>free for all Twproject users<\/strong>.
