relationships.<\/p>\n<p>This is where <strong>leads and lags<\/strong> come in as the most essential and fundamental building blocks of planning.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a closer look at that in this article.<br \/>\n<a name=\"what\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What are leads and lags in a project?<\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s have a look at what we&#8217;re talking about and start by understanding what leads and lags are in a project.<br \/>\n<a name=\"lead\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>What is lead time?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Lead time<\/strong> is defined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/the-sixth-edition-of-the-pmbok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PMBOK<\/a> as &#8220;the length of time a following activity can be advanced over a previous activity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This means that when a task is still running and at the same time work begins on another task, <strong>lead time indicates the overlap between the first and second tasks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a practical example: when introducing a new order management software, the organization may decide to start the <a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/team-preparation-training-relevant-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">training phase for project team employees<\/a> at the same time that the development team is still performing testing activities on the software.<br \/>\n<a name=\"project\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>What is lead time in project management?<\/h3>\n<p>Lead time in project management refers to a finished, one-time project, or the completion of a significant portion of the project.<\/p>\n<p>It is often used in <a
